Our GCP Update keeps you up to date with the latest news from, about and around Google Cloud. In this special edition, Michael Walther, Jörn Steege and Christian Burger-Ringer highlight their favorite announcements of Next ‘22, Google Cloud’s flagship event that took place October 11-13, 2022.
This year’s Google Cloud Next could take place in a hybrid format. The exciting 24-hour livestream broadcast starting in New York City, then moving to Sunnyvale, Tokyo, Bengaluru, before ending in Munich, underscored Google’s commitment to investing heavily in its cloud offering.
In particular in Europe; in addition to a second data center in Switzerland, new data centers in Austria, Greece, Norway, South Africa and Sweden were announced. At the same time, Accenture and Google Cloud announced the expansion of their partnership, which includes the Google Cloud-based optimization of Accenture’s ai.Retail platform, new joint Innovation Hubs in Dublin and other places, Accenture’s commitment to expand to 15,000 Google Cloud certifications, and the development of new joint industry solutions.
This is very good news for the Accenture Google Business Group in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany (AGBG ASG), expanding our close partnership with Google and enabling our customers to grow their business with Google Cloud’s latest innovations.

- BigQuery enables now the analysis of unstructured data such as raw documents and PDFs.
- Translation Hub – a fully managed, self-serve AI Agent for translating content into 135 languages.
- Google Cloud’s storage engine Big Lake, adds support for Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake and soon for Apache Hudi.
- Integration of BigQuery with Apache Spark to speed processing times.
- Datastream for BigQuery: organizations can replicate data in real-time from AlloyDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle directly into BigQuery.
- Integration of Looker with Data Studio – Data studio is now Looker Studio.
- Enhancements to Looker, BigQuery, and Microsoft Power BI making it easier for Tableau and Microsoft customers to use Looker and BigQuery.
- Vertex AI Vision, a new service that makes computer vision and image recognition easier.
- Expanded integrations with popular enterprise data platforms such as Collibra, Elastic, MongoDB, Palantir Foundry, and ServiceNow in order to prevent data lock-in.
- Google Workspace not only counts 3 billion Gmail users and 8 million paying customers, but also includes smart canvas and client-side encryption meeting data protection requirements in Europe.
Next ’22 highlighted many great innovations to Google’s Data Cloud, the is the most complete and unified data and AI offering in the market.

The European Cloud Sovereignty Highlight:
- In order to meet sovereignty requirements and support compliance with European regulations such as GDPR, Google Cloud has established partnerships including T-Systems in Germany, S3NS in France, Minsait in Spain, and Telecom Italia in Italy. - Security Operations: The introduction of Chronicle Security Operations provides a new powerful weapon to fight cyberthreats.

- BI: Data Studio becomes Looker Studio, read more here.
- AI 1: Taking its commitment to open ecosystems a step further, Google Cloud is a founding member and contributor to the AI Innovation Acceleration project OpenXLA.
- AI 2: Learn more about new features to existing AI agents and the new one with Translation Hub, helping companies achieve business results faster.

Google Workspace Highlights:
- Smart Canvas: Through elements (e.g. tagging people, maps, etc.) and by integrating with numerous 3rd party tools such as Asana or Salesforce, Smart Canvas make it easier for people to stay connected.
- Client-side Encryption: Addressing a broad range of data sovereignty and compliance requirements, client-side encryption provides Enterprise Plus and Education Plus/Standard customers with complete control over access to their data.
- Immersive Connections: To make video calls with Google Meet feel as engaging as in-person meetings, new features such as Speaker Spotlight in Slides and Controlling Slides directly within Meet create immersive connections.
- Artificial Intelligence: A variety of features (e.g. automatic transcriptions) enable content creators to accelerate their work.
