Our new series appears once a month and always gets to the point.
Christmas is coming soon! So, let’s go through my last GCP update in 2021.
1. AI/ML: “Making Friends with Machine Learning was a legendary internal-only Google course specially created to inspire beginners and amuse experts. Today, it is available to everyone!” Learn more about how to go from hero to zero here.
2. Terraform & GCP: As we at Wabion love Terraform, so does GCP. Check out some good practices and learn how to reduce your IAM-Permissions efficiently with “Service Account impersonation” here.
3. Github & GCP: As “you can authenticate from GitHub Actions to Google Cloud using Workload Identity Federation, removing the need to export a long-lived JSON service account key”, the integration between Github Actions, Github’s integrated CI/CD-Tooling, and GCP got a lot better and much more secure. Read this article for more information.
4. Anthos: With Anthos Multi-Cloud API finally GA, it’s much easier to streamline cluster management for AWS, Azure and GCP including terraform support coming soon. In addition, Connect gateway allowing you to interact with your Anthos clusters securely now works with Anthos clusters running on AWS and Azure too.
5. Cloud Functions: We shared the first three parts of “Cloud Functions anti-patterns” last month. Here’s the recap of the entire series including some tips on how to do better with Google Cloud Functions in the future.
6. Predictive Analytics: Are you interested in building a prediction market like an innovation champion? In this article, you will learn how to leverage Google Cloud solutions to predict future outcomes more accurately, plan for unknown events, and discover product and customer opportunities.
7. Datastream: Google Cloud’s serverless change data capture (CDC) and replication service is now GA. Find the welcome message here.
8. API Management: We’ve had a lot of discussion about API-Management with our customers lately. Once again, Google Cloud Developer Advocate Priyanka Vergadia provides a great overview on the solutions available on GCP and additional insights.
9. Cloud Security: The monthly must-read when it comes to cloud- and cyber security – “Cloud CISO Perspectives: November 2021” by Phil Venables, CISO of Google Cloud.
10. Edge Computing: Here’s a great series of articles on Edge Computing and how Google Cloud can help you tackle the challenges – read parts 1, 2 and 3.
11. Identity & Security: Cloud IDS is now finally GA and “helps you detect and defend against network-based threats”.
12. Kubernetes: Stephanie Wong, Developer Advocate at Google Cloud, sat down with Google Fellow Eric Brewer, “one of the early stewards of Kubernetes”, for a series of interviews. Watch the videos and gain very interesting insights into K8s and OpenSource in general here.
13. SAP & GCP: In the last 12 months alone, Google Cloud has added three times the number of SAP customers as the year prior. Read here how SAP customers on GCP will benefit even more in the months to come.
14. Risk and Compliance as Code: If you take security seriously, this is a must-read for you. Check out the Risk and Compliance as Code solution from Google’s Cybersecurity Action Team http://gcat.google.com/.
15. Looker: JOIN 2021, Lookers annual user conference took place in November. You find some of the most important announcements and links to more sources here.
16. Cloud Migration: Radek Stankiewicz, Strategic Cloud Engineer at Google Warsaw, provides some interesting insights on how you can “put your Big Data Platform (BDP) cloud migration at risk” (and hence avoid the risks) in this article on Medium.
17. Secure Software Supply Chains: Great read on Medium on one of the most important topics in Cybersecurity moving forward.
18. Apache Log4j vulnerability: Google Cloud has successfully validated and pushed a new preconfigured Cloud Armor WAF rule and and other measures to counter the Apache #Log4j vulnerability. Google Cloud IDS signature updates also help detect Apache Log4j vulnerability.
