In 2021, its 125 employees generated net sales of CHF 92 million. In the B2C sector, the division produces over 2500 recipes a year and sells over 1.6 million kitchen appliances and 150,000 cookbooks. The website has over 2.1 million visitors per month, and the newsletter is received by over 590,000 subscribers. In the B2B sector, Betty Bossi develops food solutions for internal and external partners, does food consulting for the catering industry and other business areas.
As the leading public cloud provider for data analytics and AI/machine learning, Google Cloud covers all needs for storing, processing and analyzing central business data. The various products can be easily combined and integrated. Before Betty Bossi, Wabion developed a data analytics platform that combines Cloud Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Dataflow and BigQuery for the insurance group AXA, among others.
Customer proximity in the digital age
Betty Bossi’s IT infrastructure, which is mainly operated on-prem, comprises various internally developed systems. In order to integrate the data sources more efficiently, to connect new systems more easily as well as to understand customer needs even better, the culinary pioneer decided to set up a new data analytics solution. Wabion – Part of Accenture was awarded the contract to develop the new setup based on Google Cloud products. The following goals are in the focus:
- Migration of the existing on-prem Data Warehouse (DWH) into a comprehensive, integrated data platform on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Flexible connection of new sources to map new use cases.
- Establishment of new reporting based on integrated customer-related web data.
- Self-service access to data analytics or the reporting.
- Ensuring stability and performance of the platform.
Step by step to the new data platform
Building on experience from data projects for clients such as AXA, Sika and Coop, the Wabion – Part of Accenture team convinced Betty Bossi to take a step-by-step approach. After the successful proof of concept (PoC), the Google Cloud experts from Wabion – Part of Accenture presented a comprehensive concept.
Following the successful proof of concept (PoC), the Google Cloud experts from Wabion – Part of Accenture subjected the previous on-prem data analytics solution to a comprehensive analysis. The target architecture of the new setup, approved by Betty Bossi, and a migration plan completed the concept phase.
Together with the migration plan, the target architecture formed the core of this concept. The new Data Analytics Solution from Betty Bossi connects all relevant data sources and combines a wide range of Google Cloud products such as Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub and Dataflow, among others. The actual data analysis takes place in BigQuery, Google Cloud’s serverless data warehouse. BigQuery’s flexible connectivity makes a variety of tools available for reporting purposes:
Betty Bossi’s new data analytics solution combines a range of Google Cloud products for the storage (Cloud Storage), preparation (Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, etc.) and evaluation (BigQuery) of data from diverse sources such as website tracking, address data or warehouse management. The flexible connection of BigQuery to tools like Looker opens up new possibilities for reporting.
Wabion – Part of Accenture also guided Betty Bossi through the implementation phase after acceptance of the concept. The establishment of the company-specific instance on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) within the framework of a Cloud Foundation formed a solid foundation. This was the basis for prioritizing and implementing the use cases:
In accordance with a prioritization carried out with Betty Bossi, a basic use case was implemented first as part of the defined target architecture. The implementation of all use cases (evaluations of customer surveys, product evaluations, etc.) followed the same procedure, whereby the experts from Wabion – Part of Accenture prepared the Betty Bossi project team in parallel for the operation of the new data analytics solution on the GCP.
