Tamedia switches to Google Apps for Work

February 22nd, 2016

Tamedia is a Swiss media group headquartered in Zurich. With its daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, online platforms as well as printing centres, Tamedia is among Switzerland’s leading media enterprises. With their independent reports and critical investigations, Tamedia’s various media outlets strongly contribute to the country’s public opinion and also publish entertaining stories based on all aspects of life. The company was founded in 1893 and has been publicly traded at the Swiss Exchange since 2000.

Striving for leadership in the digital market, Tamedia’s internal working operations and processes should likewise benefit from the increase in digitalisation — independently of device, network, program or time. With the “New Way of Working” approach, Tamedia has thus begun a corresponding initiative. One of the endeavour’s central goals is to modernise the company’s communication and collaboration platform. At the same time, there should be a reduction in complexity on the IT side in order to increase capacity for supporting of advanced digitalisation strategies.

After an elaborate analysis, Tamedia has opted for the Google Apps for Work product suite. Google Apps for Work allows for easy and efficient communication and collaboration between all employees as well as with external partners. The project launched in May 2015 and was concluded after the successful launch for all 3,000 employees on 9 November 2015.

With the help of the Google App Premiere Partner Wabion, all emails, calendars and contacts were migrated to Google so that all data was immediately and completely available to employees upon launch. As part of a change program, all employees were made familiar with, prepared and trained for the change.
