Google Drive File Stream launched

October 3rd, 2017

On 26 September, Google released File Stream to all G-Suite domains.

With the File Stream application, accessing Google Drive is made even easier. The application makes it possible to use Google Drive as a mounted virtual file system for the PC and Mac. This saves local storage space as files are only downloaded when in use or when explicitly marked for offline use. Using the Finder/Explorer, one can navigate as usually and open files with native desktop applications if needed.

Our client Weiss+Appetito has already launched File Stream as part of the Early Adopter Program and has migrated all file shares to Google Drive. With File Stream, the files are now also available to all locally installed applications.
